How much does it pay?
The General Data Company publishes no payout range
The General Data Company pays a one-off price or a share of what it earns from licensing, on agreed milestones, and states no band or rate. Its German calculator's Transport and Logistics sample runs from EUR 350,000 to EUR 2.15M, on assumptions it calls uncalibrated, and it says the figure is no offer and the value can also be zero. Treat the sample as an illustration.2,3
Sale or license?
The General Data Company says both sell and license
The General Data Company's page title and calculator say sell or license, while the page body says "We license". The calculator explains the split: under a sale the parties agree scope and price, and under a license the seller keeps the data. Ask which one you are being offered before you share a sample.4
What it buys
What The General Data Company licenses
The General Data Company wants three groups of records: company archives, including from companies no longer trading; operational processes such as complaints, credit notes, inspection and maintenance, tickets, CRM, and order and stock exports; and expertise such as drawings, CAD, change requests and commissioning. Its calculator says digital records only.1,6
The General Data Company says current designs, prices and anything a competitor could use stay with you. No headcount, years or region floor is stated, and in our view its focus is Germany: a closed-door Berlin conference on 2026-12-12 is aimed at DAX and Mittelstand firms.7,6
How does a deal run?
The General Data Company's steps, from NDA to delivery
The General Data Company starts with an NDA, a data-processing agreement and a sample review of rights and suitability, then puts scope, purposes, recipients and payment in writing before delivery. It says no file moves before a signed agreement, you decide in writing who may receive results, and you are told the licensee.8,9
Names, company names, addresses, phone numbers, customer numbers and VAT IDs are replaced consistently using its own model plus a human check, and the link to real names is then deleted. An export or storage access is enough on your side. It carries tech errors-and-omissions and cyber insurance, with cover set out in the agreement.10,11
The General Data Company publishes no exclusivity terms, retention period, time to offer, seller fees or revenue share rate. Its contracts are drawn up with an unnamed international law firm, which is its own counsel.12,13
Staff accounts
The General Data Company's Companion app
The General Data Company's privacy notice covers a TGDC Companion app with Gmail backup, and says mail a user sends through Send may enter licensed datasets after anonymization. In our view, owners should ask whether staff can route company mail into this app.14
The company
Who runs The General Data Company
General Data Labs, Inc. is the legal entity, a Delaware company represented by CEO Nicholas Torabi on its German imprint, which gives a Newark, Delaware address. Its terms and privacy notice give San Francisco instead. The company says its leadership comes from Barclays, BCG, Optiver and AWS, without naming them, and we found no independent press.5,15,12
The General Data Company's referral program says "Earn up to $50,000 for an introduction", and up to EUR 50,000 on its German page. The reward depends on partnership size, is set in a written referral agreement and is paid when a data partnership is signed.16
