Is Replay AI legit? Who runs it and how new it is
Replay is run by the people behind Sunset, the startup wind-down service, and an SEC notice shows Sunsets HQ Corp. as a Delaware company incorporated in 2023 with Brendan Mahony as an executive officer. In our view the business is new under this name: an archive copy from January 20, 2026 shows replay.ai for sale, and Replay names no completed deal, so its people can be checked but its "Millions" paid to businesses cannot.1,2,3,4,5
Replay's terms, privacy policy and footer name three different companies, and no page says which signs a data license.6
An archive copy shows replay.ai for sale in January 2026, so the domain's 2017 date says nothing about this business.4

On the record
What ties Replay to Sunset
Replay's own pages make the link. Every footer reads "Sunsets HQ Corp.", and a letter signed only "Founder and CEO" says "I started one called Sunset" and "So we built Replay". Sunset's terms name Brendan Mahony as its founder and CEO, and his name appears on the SEC notice filed in April 2025, which reports $6,431,886 sold. That filing does not mention Replay.1,2,3
replay.ai itself names no founder. Design agency Pixel Up Labs, which worked for Replay, names Mahony as founder and CEO of Replay.7
Why owners ask
Replay's site is new, and it names three companies
The replay.ai domain dates from December 15, 2017, which can make the business look older than it is. In January 2026 the domain was still listed for sale, described as the brand of a paused AI venture, so this business has used it for less than a year.4
Replay's documents do not agree on who you would be dealing with. Its terms name Replay Data, LLC, its privacy policy names Replay Data, Inc., the footer on both names Sunsets HQ Corp., and no page says which one signs a data license. The pay bands under the heading "What companies your size get paid" come with no named deal behind them.6,8
Five minutes
Four checks on Replay you can run yourself
Search Sunsets HQ Corp. on EDGAR, the SEC's free filing database, and read the Form D. Then search Delaware's free entity name search for Replay Data, LLC and Replay Data, Inc., which we have not confirmed in that register.3,6
Open replay.ai in the Wayback Machine at web.archive.org and pick January 2026, so you can see the for-sale page yourself.4
Read the footer, the terms and the privacy policy side by side, and note the three names, because the company on your agreement should be one you have looked up.6
Look up reviews under the right name. Trustpilot has no page for replay.ai, and the 4.7 from 37 reviews on Sunset's page is about Sunset, not Replay's licensing.9,10
What to ask
What Replay should settle before you share anything
Ask Replay which company signs, and how much it has actually paid and to how many businesses. Ask for the revenue share rate, which is not published. And ask what "This is a license, not a sale" means next to what it tells AI buyers, that it holds "the full rights and titles to license it onward". Replay pays people who refer companies, so the person contacting you may not work for it, and you can ask whether they earn a referral fee.6,5,11,12,13,14
Replay is not one of the firms we introduce, so go to replay.ai directly if you want its offer. Its referral page says 20+ full-time employees, and our match shows which buyers we do work with take a company like yours, so you have terms to compare.15
Process
How it works with each buyer
In each buyer's own words. Where a buyer publishes nothing, we say so.
Replay
- Historical operating data: code and commits, decision threads, financial records, support history, product logs, CRM, sales conversations, internal docs and analytics16
- Homepage: any industry, the one requirement being a record of how the work happened. Referral page: 20+ full-time employees, English-language operations, US preferred. Valuation form: accepts 1 to 9 people and under 2 years15
- $10K-$100K for 20-50 employees; $100K-$1M for 50-250; $1,000,000+ for 250+, under the heading "What companies your size get paid"8
- Typically upfront cash plus a perpetual revenue share; the share rate is not published; new data can keep paying11
- Replay does the export and removes identifiers across 60+ categories, in an isolated environment per engagement; raw data never leaves the pipeline; 120 minutes of your time17
- Not published
Check first
How to check Replay, or any buyer
The same checks for every company we profile. We state facts; you decide.
- 1.Find the company behind the ad: a legal name, a registered address and named people.
- 2.Ask for a written offer and a sample agreement before you send any data.
- 3.Ask who removes personal data, by what method, and approve it before anything is exported.
- 4.Ask which AI labs will receive the data, and whether you will be told.
- 5.Ask how they are paid: by you, by the buyer, or from a share of your deal.
- 6.Get terms from at least one other buyer before you answer.
