Buildertrend data for AI buyers: what a builder or remodeler's job files hold

Independent and sourced. We feature companies that pay us a referral fee. Our scores and reviews don't change for it. How we earn

Buildertrend's terms grant it a perpetual license to Customer Data that includes the right to sell and sublicense it, and a broker already names Buildertrend in ads to builders.1,2

Custom home builders and remodelers run on Buildertrend from the first estimate to the last walkthrough. The homeowner picks finishes in Selections and comments on each option, the site lead writes a daily log with notes on the work and the weather, change orders go to the client for approval, and messages between the office, the field and the homeowner build up on every job. For a builder with a few hundred completed homes or remodels, that is a detailed written history of residential construction from the client's side as well as the crew's.

Clova Data names Buildertrend, with Procore, in Meta ads to construction firms, and Polyshares names construction among the industries it buys from. What sets Buildertrend apart is how much of the record is conversation with homeowners.

Buildertrend's terms are also unusual. They grant the platform a broad license to Customer Data, describe no customer ownership clause that we found, and keep data accessible for a year after termination. This page sets out what Buildertrend holds, how its export works, the terms quoted with their date, and what to ask a buyer.

Worth

What a builder's data may be worth

Pre-set for a typical builder: 25 staff and 8 years of records. No buyer publishes pricing by industry, so industry does not move the band. Our estimate, not a buyer quote.

Which buyers want this data

Each reason is the buyer's own published statement about the tools, data or industries it takes, matched to how Buildertrend builders and remodelers work.

How buyers' own tools rate Buildertrend builders and remodelers

No buyer publishes a price list by industry. These are settings inside buyers' and brokers' own estimators and intake forms, read from their public pages on 2026-10-14. They show how each company sorts industries, not what any builder was paid. The category shown is the one a builder would most likely pick; that match is ours.

A week of records

A week of data at a builder

  • Monday: the site lead's daily log notes framing complete on the second floor and a late window delivery.
  • Tuesday: the homeowner comments on three tile options in Selections and asks about the price difference.
  • Wednesday: a change order for an added outlet goes to the client and is approved the same evening.
  • Thursday: the office sends a schedule update and a message explaining a two-day inspection delay.
  • Friday: to-dos for the drywall crew close out, and bid requests go out for the next job's countertops.

Selling or closing

Selling or closing your builder? License its data first

When an owner retires or sells, the job files are part of the estate. Buildertrend's terms say Customer Data may stay accessible for one year after termination, in a format Buildertrend decides and possibly for a fee. Take the exports a licensing company needs while the subscription is active.3

FAQ

Buildertrend data: questions, answered

  • Buildertrend's help center says you can select Export in the top right corner of any grid that supports it to download an Excel document. We found no help article on a whole-account or bulk export, so ask Buildertrend and the buyer how daily logs and messages would come out.41

  • Its terms define Customer Data to include messages, attachments, files, tasks, to-dos, daily logs, invoices, purchase history, photographs, videos and plans. Daily logs carry a Notes field for work completed, site conditions and issues, and clients use Direct Chat, Comments or Messages.42

  • Section 14.3 of the terms, updated 2026-06-24, grants Buildertrend a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free license to Customer Data, listing uses including to sell, license and sublicense. We found no clause stating who owns Customer Data. We quote; we do not interpret.1

  • Section 2.3 says customers shall not use scripts, crawlers, robots or other automated processes to copy, scrape or systematically acquire content without Buildertrend's express written consent. Put that clause in front of any buyer who proposes a connector.43

  • The terms say Customer Data may remain accessible for one year after the subscription ends. Buildertrend decides the format and method, access may carry fees, and after that year it may permanently delete the data.3

  • Buyers set size bars, not job types. Most buyers want 20 to 30 or more: micro1 and Return My Time look for 30+, while Nyne, Cognor Labs and Goldmined.ai start at about 20. Mercor, Troveo and Jottings AI state no minimum. Clova Data's construction ads ask for 20+ office staff and 4+ years. In 2022 there were 9,081 US remodelers with 10+ employees.31,44,21,45,46,47,29,48,5,4

  • Buyers do not price them separately. micro1 asks for workflows and task histories, which daily logs and to-dos supply; Polyshares buys email and similar correspondence. Client messages carry more personal detail, so they are the part most likely to be cut down.10,14

  • Does Buildertrend's own license to our data affect any exclusivity you ask for?
  • How are homeowner names, addresses and family details removed from messages and logs?
  • How do CCPA, GDPR, UK GDPR and state privacy laws apply, and is de-identified data still personal information?
  • Do customer, vendor or platform contracts, NDAs or API terms restrict this?

Questions for any buyer

  • Is the license exclusive, and for how long?
  • Can you sublicense the data, and to whom?
  • Which AI labs will receive it, and will you tell us?
  • How long do you keep it, and how is it deleted?
  • What is your liability cap, and who indemnifies whom?
  • Will the contract ban re-identification of people in the data?
  • Who removes personal data, by what method, and do we approve it first?

How this page was made

Every figure comes from a published source listed below, each with the date we checked it. Buyer statements are the buyer's own claims and are marked so in the source list.
