An online brand looks like a website, but it runs like an operations company. The CX team answers where-is-my-order, sizing and return questions all day in Gorgias or Zendesk. Merchandising writes and rewrites product listings. Operations argues with the 3PL about a mis-pick and with the factory about a late PO. Growth plans the next Klaviyo flow and the launch calendar in Slack. Most of it is written, and most of it is linked to an order.
Those records describe the work AI agents are being built to do in retail: answer customers, manage stock and keep listings accurate. Mercor names retail and e-commerce and lists order records, inventory logs and listings. Polyshares names retail. OpenAI's GDPval benchmark includes customer service representatives, the job a CX team does.
This hub is for founders and operators of DTC brands, Shopify stores, Amazon sellers and multichannel retailers with ten or more staff. It sets out which records buyers ask about, why customer details and payment data need a separate conversation, which buyers fit a brand your size, and what to ask before any ticket leaves your helpdesk. Sub-pages cover Shopify DTC brands and Amazon marketplace sellers.

- Troveo puts retail or e-commerce in its third of four demand tiers: "Standard buyer demand for your industry."28

What buyers value
What in a brand's records buyers value
What buyers look for in your records, and what to talk through with your buyer before anything leaves your systems.
| Data | Where it lives | Why a buyer values it | Raise with the buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customer support tickets and chats | Gorgias, Zendesk, Shopify Inbox | Real customer questions with the agent's answer and the outcome: refund, exchange or resolved. | Customer names, emails, addresses and order numbers in every ticket. |
| Order and returns records | Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, returns apps | Mercor names order records; return reasons show what went wrong and how the brand responded. | Payment details and anything a card processor treats as cardholder data. |
| Product listings and revisions | Shopify admin, marketplace listing tools, PIM | Listings are on Mercor's list, and revision history shows what copy and specs changed after customer questions. | Nothing specific |
| Inventory logs and purchase orders | ERP or inventory app, spreadsheets | Reorder decisions, stockouts and supplier lead times: the judgment behind keeping a SKU in stock. | Supplier pricing given in confidence. |
| 3PL and supplier email | Gmail or Outlook, Slack Connect | Mis-picks, damages and late containers negotiated in writing. | Nothing specific |
| CX macros, SOPs and brand voice guides | Helpdesk macros, Notion, Google Docs | How the brand wants every situation handled, written down for new agents, and clearly the brand's own. | Nothing specific |

Selling or closing
Selling or closing your brand? License its data first
If your brand is sold to an aggregator, a competitor or a holding company, or wound down, the buyer of the brand usually wants the customer file, the listings and the supplier relationships. The support history and SOPs can be licensed as a separate asset. Ask each licensing company whether a license can close before a brand sale, and whether customer messages need to be handled differently if the store is closing.2,3
FAQ
E-commerce and DTC brands: questions, answered
No buyer publishes an e-commerce price. Published ranges mostly run $100K to $2M, as the buyers' own claims: micro1 states $100K-$2M+, Cognor Labs and Ventra $100K-$2M, and Jottings $100K-$250K for specialized histories up to $1M+ for rare data. Years of tickets linked to orders and returns, plus clean product and inventory history, are what a buyer will ask about.7,49,50,51
