Does company data add to your sale price?
The honest answer is that nobody has measured it. We found no study, broker report or valuation guide that shows acquirers of small and mid-sized businesses paying more because of the company's archives. What can be shown is the price AI licensors put on that archive separately: mostly $100K to $2M per package, by the buyers' own figures from micro1, Ventra and Cognor.1,2,3
Scale
Two numbers side by side
BizBuySell reported 2,117 closed small business transactions in Q2 2026 for about $1.8B, an average of about $850K by our arithmetic. Licensors' own published ranges mostly start at about $100K: Nyne says $100K or more, Ventra and Cognor $100K-$2M. Set against each other, a license is not a rounding error for the businesses that qualify, but those businesses are the larger end of the market: most buyers want 20 to 30 or more employees, from Goldmined's 20 to micro1's 30+.4,5,6,2,3,7
Online, Flippa reports 14 sales in its AI Apps & Tools category in the first half of 2026 at an average of $535,714. That is a price for whole AI businesses, not for data, and we show it only to mark the scale of a neighbouring market.8

How appraisers see it
Data already has a line in some valuations
Tiger, an appraiser, values customer lists and routes and revenue-generating databases for M&A, buyouts and restructurings. Hilco lists proprietary enterprise data, codebases and AI training assets as an advisory line in M&A and carve-outs. Those are signs that specialists treat data as an asset; neither publishes a premium a typical owner could apply.9,10
On the buyer's side of a deal, the trend runs through diligence. Foley and Lardner reports that training-data rights are becoming their own diligence category in AI deals. That shows attention, not a price uplift.11
What to do with this
Get the two numbers separately
Ask a licensor for a written offer on the data, and ask your broker or adviser what the business is worth without it. Then you can see whether an acquirer is paying for the archive or ignoring it. Licensors say they are quick to quote, usually within a few days to two weeks: Ventra 3 to 7 days, Project Lazarus about a week after sampling, Polyshares 1-2 weeks. How a license changes the purchase price is a deal question, listed below for the licensing company.12,2,13
