One-time payment or recurring?
Mostly one-time. Buyers quote a price per data package, mostly $100K to $2M by their own claims (micro1, Cognor Labs, Ventra), and most pay within 2-8 weeks of signing. But micro1's ads say deals have opportunities to become recurring, and Troveo pays a revenue share. Ask which model you are being offered before comparing two numbers.1,2,3,4,5,6,7
The usual model
One payment for one package
Most offers price a defined set of records once. micro1 quotes per data package. Nyne says its deals are $100K or more. Payment follows within weeks: Mercor wires in 2-4 weeks, Cognor Labs quotes 3-6 weeks, and Polyshares and Ventra pay net 30 or 60. Turing's Project Lazarus says up to $1M in one payment.1,8,7,2,9,10,6
A lump sum is simple: you know what you get, and the deal can end with the transfer. Nyne's ads say raw files are deleted within 30 days.11
A lump sum also makes your own decision easier. Set the figure against the work micro1's video describes, 1-3 hours for a data manifest and up to 10 engineering hours to transfer, and you can tell quickly whether the deal is worth doing at all.12
The other models
Repeat deals and revenue share
Repeat deals: micro1's summer ads promised "opportunities to become recurring". In practice that likely means licensing new records as they build up, or a second package from another system. micro1's Workflows track, where employees write prompts and give feedback, is ongoing work by nature.3,13
Revenue share: Troveo describes licensing, not sale, on a revenue share, without publishing the percentage. You are paid as the buyer earns from your data. That can pay more over time, or less, and you depend on the buyer's sales and its reporting.4
Comparing offers
How to compare a lump sum with a share
Ask the revenue-share buyer for a realistic first-year figure and what it is based on, and ask for audit rights on the reporting. Ask the lump-sum buyer whether the license is exclusive, since that decides whether a second deal is possible. The AI Data page's "One copy licensed, every original stays with you" is a non-exclusive pitch.14
Our view, not a buyer's: for most small firms, a lump sum is easier to judge and easier to explain to a future acquirer, who will see it in diligence, as Frankfurt Kurnit's checklist expects.15
FAQ
Questions, answered with sources
Troveo does not publish the percentage.4
Possibly, if your first license is non-exclusive and does not cover future records. The AI Data page pitches licensing a copy while originals stay with you.14
